Shockwave Therapy in Barrie

Stubborn foot, shoulder, hip, or knee pain that hasn’t budged with care? Shockwave Therapy is now available at Integrated Health Connections!

Dr. Sarah Racicot recommends it for chronic conditions that haven’t responded to chiropractic, massage, or physiotherapy. If it isn’t the right fit, we’ll tell you—and guide you to what is.

How Shockwave Therapy Works

Shockwave uses focused sound waves (not electricity) to deliver energy to sore, stubborn tissues. This therapy uses a handheld device, and each session per area is brief—usually under two minutes. Most people feel a vibration; certain spots can be uncomfortable, similar to deep soft-tissue work, but it’s short-lived.

What Shockwave Therapy Treats

If your pain has lingered despite good care, shockwave may help restart stalled healing by increasing blood flow and stimulating healthy tissue repair. It’s commonly used for:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Calcific or chronic shoulder tendinitis
  • Frozen shoulder with reduced range of motion
  • Hip or knee tendinopathies

It may also help when surgery seems next, if the area is structurally stable.

Treatment Timeline and Aftercare

Care is typically once per week for 3-7 visits, based on the tissue and how long you’ve had the problem. Then we pause, as benefits often keep building for 1-2 months. We recheck progress around two months after the series.

For 24 hours after a session:

  • Avoid strenuous activity on the treated area
  • Skip ice
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications so your body can heal
  • Side effects are usually mild and temporary: redness, subtle swelling, or light bruising.

Safety and Considerations

Shockwave is not used for acute injuries or structural tears. It’s also not appropriate if you take blood thinners, have a history of thrombosis, have a pacemaker, or have screws or plates in the treatment area.

You’ll review informed consent specific to Shockwave Therapy, and we only recommend it when we believe it will help. If another service is better—like soft tissue release, medical acupuncture, or a referral—we’ll say so. Direct insurance billing is available for many plans.
